Happy Thursday friends! Today I am excited to share about the surprising and amazing benefits of strawberries! If you missed my instagram post from a couple of days ago (HERE) or this instagram story HERE, you may not have seen that we have loved the strawberries this season!
I admit that while I do eat frozen strawberries throughout the year in my smoothies, there is just something extremely delicious about fresh strawberries! As I was researching about more about them, I was amazed at the incredible studies that have been done on the power of this little fruit that packs such an important health punch.
Today I am so excited to share with y'all 10 surprising and Amazing Benefits of Eating strawberries:
1. Excellent Source of Vitamin C
Strawberries are an excellent source of Vitamin C and one serving contains about HALF of your daily requirement!! This dentist in Del Mar CA adds that vitamin C is not only good for your immune system but also for your gum health. It helps keeping the connective tissues in your gums, which hold your teeth in place.
2. Helps Protect and Maintain Your Heart
There are many studies that link strawberries to hearth health! One study even showed that eating 2.5 servings of strawberries each and every day for a month significantly improved endothelial (the membrane in heart and blood vessels) function and antioxidant status.
3. Defense Against Endothelial Dysfunction
Endothelial Dysfunction is characterized by the abnormal functioning of inner lining of our blood vessels. In scientific studies that have been performed strawberries have shown to provide protection against endothelial dysfunction.
4. Unique Antioxidant power
Strawberries contain Ellagic Acid which is an antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory effects which can help slow down, prevent or even reverse certain chronic diseases!
5. Improves Brain Power
A Nurses Health Study measured brain function in nearly 20,000 patients over the course of six years. During this time it found that people who ate blueberries and strawberries had less cognitive decline and even had the brain power of someone up to 2 and 1/2 years younger than them!
In addition to this the Rush Memory and Aging Project showed that people who consumed strawberries regularly were 34% less likely to develop Alzheimer's!
6. Helps to Lower Inflammation
Strawberries are a food that you should consume regularly if you are looking to help your body reduce chronic inflammation. Strawberries naturally cause a reduction in inflammation and allow your body's processes to happen as they should.
7. Beneficial for Eye Health
Some studies have shown that the antioxidant properties in strawberries may also help prevent the production of cataracts which is a clouding over the eye lens. Cataracts also can lead to blindness in older age. Vitamin C is known to play an important role in strengthening the eye's cornea and retina and can help benefit your eyes!
8. Helps to Regulate Blood Pressure
Potassium (found in Strawberries) is considered to help not only our hearts, but also can help regulate blood pressure!
9. Helps Maintain Beautiful Skin
Because strawberries contain so many "skin friendly" vitamins, blackberries help to maintain beautiful looking skin and even helps prevent the skin from wrinkling. In addition to this studies have shown that the Vitamin C that is present in strawberries is also responsible for the formation and strengthening of collagen structure which helps to keep the skin toned and tightened.
