You probably already have a home maintenance checklist outlining all of the tasks you think you need to get done. Does this really have everything included on it? After all, there could be more home maintenance tasks to get done than you might be aware of, no matter how comprehensive your checklist is.
Some of these are more commonly overlooked than others. Being aware of them, though, makes sure they’re on your checklist, so you won’t forget about them. Since they can have major consequences if they’re not done, it’s worth making sure they’re a part of your list. Get them done, and you shouldn’t have to worry about anything.
Five of these stand out:
Checking The Air Conditioner - Your air conditioner needs much more work than you’d think. From cleaning out the vents to replacing some minor parts, you’ll need to get this work done as regularly as possible. Even some preventative maintenance can be enough to prevent anything major from happening. Warren Systems can be a great option for carrying out this work.
Testing The Sump Pump - Most homes have a sump pump, whether homeowners know about it or not. It’ll need to be checked regularly so you know it’s actually functional. If it isn’t, it could lead to flooding around your home, which you’ll want to avoid. Check this regularly to make sure you avoid any flooding.
Cleaning Refrigerator Coils - When you think of maintaining your fridge, you might’ve thought about cleaning out the inside. As recommended as that is, you’ll also need to clean the coils. If these aren’t cleaned regularly, it could build up heat, making everything work harder and shortening your fridge’s lifespan.
Draining The Water Heater - The inside of your water heater mightn’t be something you’d think about with home maintenance tasks. It can build up a lot of sediment during an average year, however. You’ll need to drain the water heater and clean it regularly to make sure this dirt doesn’t damage the machine. If it doesn’t, it’ll lead to hotspots, which could damage your water heater.
Lubing Or Replacing Garage Door Springs - Garage doors are often one of the more overlooked areas with home maintenance. You mightn’t even think you need to do much with them. As it turns out, you do. The springs, for example, need to be lubed or replaced relatively regularly for your garage door to work properly. Lube them at least once a year to prevent any damage.
A home maintenance checklist is a large part of being a responsible homeowner, and it’s something you should put together as quickly as possible. Some things will be more important than others, however. Forgetting them could lead to major issues in the future.
Testing the sump pump, draining the water heater, and lubing or replacing garage door springs - among others - are all notable home maintenance tasks you shouldn’t overlook. With a little bit of effort, you shouldn’t have to deal with any notable issues.
