If you love camping but you want to make it a little more special, comfortable and enjoyable, then you might well want to try out something known as glamping. If you haven’t looked into this already, glamping is quite simply camping but done in a more glamorous manner - and it just so happens to be one of the most enjoyable ways to spend a weekend - or more - that you might come across.
But how do you get into it, and what makes a trip glamping rather than camping? In this post, we are going to look at some advice on how to go glamping for the first time, so you can ensure that you are doing it right and enjoying it as fully as possible.
Understand What Glamping Is
Before you do anything else, it’s a good idea to try and get to grips with what exactly glamping is. If you are not sure or you haven’t really come across it before, then you should know that it’s actually quite simple and straightforward. Essentially, it is just a way of going camping so that you can be as luxurious and comfortable as possible, and as you might be able to appreciate that is definitely a much more enjoyable way to camp than you might be used to.
Glamping has been around for a few years now, and you might have heard a lot about it. There is plenty posted about it on social media, but remember: the main thing is that you are doing all you can to make it as enjoyable and comfortable as possible, as that is all that really matters here. Let’s now look in some detail at how you can ensure you are getting into glamping in the right way, and enjoying it as much as you would hope.
Finding The Perfect Spot
With any camping trip, you will obviously want to be careful about which spot you choose, as you need to make sure that you are going to be able to enjoy it as much as possible. But with glamping, the destination is even more important, because some spots are going to be so much more comfortable than other ones, so you do need to put a lot of thought and effort into ensuring that you choose the right one for your needs.
So how do you find the perfect spot? First of all, think about looking out for places that are clearly designed to be good for glamping. There are a lot of campsites and similar places now that advertise themselves in exactly this way, so they are going to be worth looking into at the very least. You might want to go glamping in Oregon, for instance, in which case there are plenty of great glamping spots that you can choose between. If you want to be really sure that you are choosing well, check out their websites, call ahead and find out as much as you can.
Once you have found the perfect spot, you are going to be much more likely to feel ready for your camping trip, and you’ll be able to get ready for glamping for the first time a lot more easily.
Choose A Type Of Accommodation
The thing about glamping is you are not necessarily going to be in a tent - in fact, you are probably not going to be doing it that way! There are so many other types of accommodation on offer, and many which offer incredible amounts of comfort, so it’s really important that you are at least aware of these if you are keen to ensure your glamping experience goes off without a hitch.
For instance, you might choose to stay in a safari tent, which is a little like a large tent but with canvas walls, ensuring extra heat and comfort the whole night through. These often have separate rooms and are therefore a much more spacious option when compared to a normal camping tent. In a sense, it is a semi-permanent structure, and you might even have a kitchen and a bathroom in there too.
Alternatively, perhaps you will consider a yurt. These have been popping up all over the world with glamping becoming so popular, and they are incredibly comfortable things to stay in for sure. A yurt is a round, wooden-framed structure that is much sturdier than a tent, and the really luxurious ones often even have electricity as well as kitchens and bathrooms. Or if you prefer to go a little more rustic than that, you might opt for a simpler one that just provides a bed. Either way, it is still very comfortable compared to normal camping, so it’s something to consider.
Then there is the famous tipi, which is similar to a yurt but smaller, meaning it is easier to heat and to cool down as necessary. You will find that there are plenty of campgrounds which have tipis as a glamping option, so it’s something to keep your eye out for as you are looking for somewhere to stay.
Some places also now set up luxurious homes in the form of treehouses. If you want a glamping experience that will take you back to your youthful days of tree-climbing, then this is the option for you. In some cases, these treehouses can be so luxurious that you won’t even feel like you are camping at all, which is what some glampers are going for here!
As you can see, there are a lot of options when it comes to choosing your accommodation for glamping. There are many others which we have not listed here yet too. Whatever you do, just make sure that you are choosing well, and that you are happy with where you are sleeping, as that is going to make the whole experience a lot better for you in a lot of ways. Once you have decided on this, you will find that much else simply falls into place for you.
Pack For Comfort
The other main thing you need to do is to make sure you are packing for comfort, as this is going to be hugely important in ensuring that the glamping experience is as special as possible. If you are comfortable enough with what you have, then that is going to make a huge difference to the experience. So what might you want to pack in order to ensure that this is going to be the case for you?
First of all, ensure that you have plenty with you to keep warm, no matter what the temperature might dip to. If you are not kept warm, that is the quickest way for the experience to be ruined. Secondly, you need to think about what you are going to sleep in, and it might be that you want to have extra blankets and pillows just in case. The more of this kind of stuff that you have with you, the more likely it is that you will feel comfortable and relaxed, so that is important to bear in mind here.
If you’re choosing accommodation that means you’re self-sustaining then you’ll need to take a camping stove, some sort of cool box for perishables, and premium knives for cooking (and any other situations like cutting rope you may need it for). Remember to take foods that are less likely to perish to avoid any food poisoning.
Beyond that, you should ensure that you have thought about toiletries - as if you don’t have everything you need here, it could really make things a lot more difficult for you, and you are much less likely to be truly comfortable.
Those are just some of the main things to think about in order to ensure that your first glamping experience is as it should be. With this in place, you should have a great time.
