Bad Bathroom Habits You Need To Break Right Now

April 3, 2020

For many of us, the time that we spend in the bathroom is special. It’s when we primp and preen, readying ourselves for the day ahead. Some of us, though, have developed some rather unfortunate habits along the way, many of which are bad for our health.

Bathrooms are breeding grounds for bacteria and germs, and things can get out of control pretty quickly.

Sorry - but bleaching down your toilet once per week just isn’t going to cut it. If you want to stay on top of bathroom hygiene, you need to be meticulous.

Here are some lousy bathroom habits you’ll want to avoid.

Missing A Spot
Most of us have a body-washing routine. We start at the top and work our way down. But some of us are prone to missing spots from time to time. While occasionally harmless, some experts think that regularly failing to wash surfaces on your body could lead to skin infections and rashes. And you don’t want that! Try to create a routine and use a scrubbing brush for hard-to-reach areas, like your back.

Wiping From Back To Front

Wiping the wrong way around when you go to the loo is a surefire way to find yourself googling the difference between yeast infection and UTI symptoms. Microbes from your digestive tract can wreak havoc if they get into the wrong parts of your body.

When going to the loo, therefore, start from the front and work your way back. Alternatively, try eating more fiber. You may not have to wipe at all then. After all, aren’t we all trying to preserve our precious toilet paper in this time of crisis?

Leaving Your Toothbrush Out On The Counter
A lot of us leave our toothbrushes in cups and bowls on the counter in our bathrooms, ready to use the next time we pop in. But this practice is surprisingly unhygienic.

When you flush your toilet, the action of the water aerosolizes bacteria, which then travels around in the air. Eventually, they land on your toothbrush. Nasty!

Your best bet is to close the lid of your toilet when you flush and then put your toothbrush in your medicine cabinet. Sure, it’s slightly less convenient, but at least it isn’t gross.

Taking Your Phone Into The Bathroom
Who doesn’t like reading stuff on their phone while in the bathroom?

But there’s a problem with this habit. As you go about your business, bacteria on your hands transfer to your phone. So even after you wash them, the handset remains dirty.

For this reason, it’s best to leave your phone outside when you go to the bathroom.

Popping Pimples
If you notice a bunch of zits on your forehead, it can be very tempting to pop them. But according to some dermatologists, doing this forces dirt deeper into the skin, leading to more pimples and spots in the future. Worse still, popping a zit can lead scarring that stays with you for the rest of your life!

The best approach is to use concealer and wait for the spot to flake off naturally. Eventually, it will.

Are you guilty of any of these bad bathroom habits?
