If you want to travel the world, now is the time. More Americans are packing up their bags than ever before and taking to the road (whether in the US or abroad), and lots of companies and businesses allow their employees to work remotely while they do it.
But traveling can still be a big cost, so if you are thinking about becoming a digital nomad it is likely you have thought about how you can earn extra money while you’re on the road. Thankfully there are lots of ways to supplement your income while traveling, no matter what your previous job was.
Here are four ways to earn money while traveling:
Write for a Travel Website
If you are already on the road traveling, you might want to consider writing for a travel website. Lots of people are interested in the nomad life and travel blogs are often looking for new writers, so contact your favorite website to see if they are taking on new writers. There are lots of subjects to cover, from daily life to tips and tricks, so if you decide to do this there should be lots of things you can write about!
Consider Teaching English
If you are a native English speaker you could also consider teaching English abroad. One of the easiest ways to do this is through a TEFL course, which you can do online before you start traveling. However, not every country is looking for TEFL writers; you can find courses in most Asian countries, but it is harder to find this kind of work in Europe. So this isn’t a great option for everyone, but if you want to travel to Asia it is definitely worth considering.
Make Your Money Work for You
If you have a bit of spare cash laying around at the end of the month, you could consider making your money work for you. This should definitely be avoided if you don’t have the extra income, but if you have a few spare dollars that would only be spent on luxury items (such as a coffee or a beer) and all of your bills are paid, you could consider taking a tiny risk. You could also invest in something that you believe in or you could buy a LottoGo ticket to try winning your own fortune.
Put Your Empty Room on AirBnB
Do you have an empty room that isn’t being used while you travel? If so, you could list the room on AirBnB for some extra cash. You can make hundreds (or even thousands) doing this every month, so this is an excellent way to supplement your income — although you may need to reinvest some of your earnings to hire a cleaner to tidy up after guests when they leave. This isn’t an issue if you are based close to the room as you can clean it yourself, but if you are hundreds of miles away you will need someone to tidy up.
