Happy Thursday friends! I hope that y'all had a lovely weekend! Today I am excited to continue recap my Alaskan Road Trip Adventures from 2019. As I have shared, I wanted to do this because I hope that it encourages you to consider taking a road trip of your own this summer to this beautiful part of the world!
Today I am excited to share more with y'all more about our recent trip to Alaska, specifically talking about our lovely stay at the Pursuit Collection's Seward Windsong Lodge in Seward, Alaska! After waking up early on Saturday morning, we had a wonderful time exploring Beluga Point along the Seward Highway before heading over to Whittier.
We headed into Whittier by taking the Whittier Tunnel (you can read about it HERE) and then spent a lovely few hours in the adorable town. It truly was a quaint place and I definitely recommend a stop there for an Alaskan Road Trip. After our time in Whittier we drove approximately 2 hours (with the tunnel) down to Seward for the evening. We had a whale watching tour with Kenai Fjord Tours booked for the next day, so we were excited to be heading down to Seward!
Seward Windsong Lodge is part of the Pursuit Collection which is a beautiful collection of experiences and lodges around the world. You can find out more about them HERE! On our road trip we stayed at two of their properties and they were both lovely. Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge was one of my favorite places and this beautiful and rustic retreat here at Seward Windsong Lodge was also lovely.
Seward is a popular stopping point for many on an Alaskan Road Trip if you are going to spend time on the Kenai Peninsula and finding lodging in this area can leave travelers looking for more options. When I originally planned the Alaskan Road Trip that I took in 2018, I specifically didn't head over to Seward due to the prices of hotels. I was not aware at that time of Seward Windsong Lodge and it is truly a gem in this area.
It is a short 5 minute drive down the road to Seward and yet, you truly feel that you have stepped into a lovely rustic retreat. If you followed our journey on my instagram or instagram stories than you know that by the time that we arrived at Seward Windsong Lodge we were pretty exhausted (hello jet lag!). We were so thankful for such a warm and beautiful welcome after our fun day!
Stepping into the main lodge area we were immediately struck by the beautiful lobby and fireplace. These pictures don't show it but early the next morning when I came back to the lobby the fireplace was going and it created an even more cozy atmosphere.
Here in the main entrance/lobby and reception area there are plenty of comfy and cozy places to sit, computers to use, and also a coffee bar area that serves coffee and some finger food type items.
The property at Windsong Lodge is divided into different buildings and in those buildings there are several different rooms that are in them. Each of the buildings at the Windsong Lodge are named for a flower in Alaska and it was really neat to see the different buildings and names. (I think we well established last year my love of the beautiful fireweed flowers. *smiles* If you missed it you can click HERE to read!)
This was our building that we stayed at! You can read a specific review of our room (room 408) by clicking HERE, but this building was lovely. It was in the back of the loop that the property has and was extremely quiet.
The flowers on the property were simply gorgeous!
As I stated earlier, the property is not far from downtown Seward and if you have a car it is a very short drive to the town. If you don't have a car there is a free shuttle to Seward that will take you back and forth that is easy to arrange with the front lobby.
The views as you walked the property were simply stunning. You could see the Kenai Peninsula mountains in the distance and the grander of the mountains was breath-taking. You can read about a couple of walks that we did on the property by clicking on the links below:
Some of my favorite spots in walking the property were when we walked to the Resurrection Roadhouse for both dinner and breakfast. Our meals were fantastic (honestly the dinner was our favorite from the entire road trip!) and you can read more about the restaurant by clicking HERE!
Our stay was beautiful and I would have loved to stay longer and explore more of the area while making this a "base camp" because it was so lovely. One small note that I do want to make is a simple note that was a bit of a "surprise" to us. If you have been around the blog for a long time than you know that I will always be honest in my reviews, even if it is hard to mention. In this case it is just a little mention (and something that didn't bother us), but could potentially bother others so I want to give a heads up.
So the Seward Windsong Lodge is a newer property and is much more rustic than the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge (also a Pursuit Collection Property). As we stayed at two of the Pursuit Collection properties it is impossible to not compare the two properties. I will be honest that I think I expected things to be more like the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge in the "cozy luxury" aspect but my guess is that it will become that way as years continue. I did hear a couple of other guests mention this and so I feel that it is something to mention. Was it cozy? Yes. Was it "rustic and basic"? Yes. That is not bad...but it felt like things still were in progress to become the lodge that I believe that it fully will be in the future.
Overall, as I stated above, I would definitely stay at the property again and stay for longer because I enjoyed it so much. It was beautiful, removed from the hustle and bustle so it was giving you a retreat, and very cozy. In addition to this the price is unbeatable as it is much cheaper than properties and places to stay in Seward (and much nicer in my opinion!)
Whatever your reason for visiting Seward is (even if you are an Alaskan resident and are looking for a perfect quick getaway, you will want to stay at the Pursuit Collection's Seward Windsong Lodge and make this the home base of your plans on the Kenai Peninsula. To be honest it is worth a trip over to the Seward area all on its own - that is how much I recommend it.

I hope that each of you have a chance to stay at the Seward Windsong Lodge. It is truly such a beautiful and lovely place. Please let me know if you have any questions!!
A huge thank you to the Pursuit Collection and the Seward Windsong Lodge for the complimentary stay and experience to stay at this beautiful property. ALL opinions are my own.
